Anubis is the Egyptian god of funerary rites, protector of graves, & guide to the underworld, often depicted as a human body with the head of a canine or jackal. He attended the weighing scale during the "Weighing of the Heart", in which it was determined whether a soul could enter the realm of the dead. Anubis helped Isis embalm Osiris, & is associated with mummification & embalming. Most ancient tombs had carved prayers to Anubis.
